Green Initiative
At Goodwill, we do more than collect and sell used goods, We keep millions of reusable items out of landfills. When we provide services, we maintain a high level of quality, and we do it in an environmentally responsible way. Goodwill is committed to reducing the impact on the environment and its natural resources. Many of the goods you might be tempted to throw away can be reused ... and turned into jobs and training for North Georgians looking for work.
Goodwill of North Georgia is proud to have achieved an ISO 14001 Registration awarded to businesses that examine their impact on the environment. Last year, we sold more than 25 million pounds of goods to recyclers, in addition to the millions of items sold in our stores - items that might otherwise have been wasted in landfills. The program is good for the environment and it generates both time and revenue to support our mission services.
Through our partnership with Dell we can even recylce your unwanted computer equipment, monitors, scanners, and printers - basically anything that connects to a computer. We keep your old tech out of landfills and put it back to good use.
Environmentally Friendly Construction
For more than 100 years, Goodwill has been championing protecting our environment through the reuse of goods. Now we are extending that same stewardship to the construction of our stores.
In April 2012, we opened the doors to our Grassland Store that was constructed in an environmentally-responsible way. The building has systems and features that reduce its impact on the environment and is expected to receive LEED (Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design) certification.
Goodwill Goes Green
Goodwill of North Georgia is also excited to announce Goodwill Goes Green, a grant from Pathways Out of Poverty from the Department of Labor that provides funds to create a green job training program to move individuals out of poverty and into economic self sufficiency while helping protect the environment.
Goodwill Goes Green provides training for general green construction, weatherization, and solar panel installers ---- in-demand skills for the 21st century workplace. This program is already assisting more than 200 unemployed individuals, dislocated workers, people with disabilities, high school dropouts, people with criminal records and other disadvantaged people facing barriers to work.
